Grown.Bio grows material from mycelium and rest-streams based upon the principles of nature. Mycelium is the root structure of mushrooms that works as a binder in any given substrate. This product is completely biodegradable, zero-waste, has insulating capacities and is the material of the future.
Mycelium consists of a dense network of interlocking cells, called hyphae. Mushrooms can break down plant matter while extending its own network of hyphae, and it is the harnessing of this behaviour that can be used to create biomaterials. These materials offer attractive alternatives to traditional synthetics as they are 100% natural, fully compostable, and can be produced from organic waste streams.
Grown.Bio grows products such as packaging, insulation panels or interior design objects! Why is this innovation a circular solution? Mycelium can grow on rest-streams, so these waste streams can be upcycled into new materials that are free of toxins and 100 % biodegradable.
Mycelium material also is healthy compost for your garden: when broken into small pieces, i twill decompose within a few months and serves as feed for your plants.
Each product grows in a mould in one week time. Once finished growing, we stop the growth process by drying the product. This avoids a mushroom to sprout form the material, and it will only remain a solid composite.
Let’s learn from nature, say no to plastics and start the mycelium revolution.
