The material is a special concrete composition that was developed in collaboration with the Federal Institute for Materials Research and Testing (BAM) for the growth of algae. The algae were applied to the material. When dry, the material can last for years. In order to use the algae to clean the air in cities, the material must be watered. Frost tests were successfully carried out in cooperation with BAM. The material is in detail:
1. acid-treated concrete substrate (w/c value: 0.6) inoculated with axenic algae culture
2. sample of textured ultra high-strength concrete (w/c = 0.19) inoculated with algae mix
3. acid-treated concrete substrate (w/c value: 0.6) inoculated with algae mix
4. sandblasted concrete substrate (w/c value: 0.6) inoculated with algae mix from Solaga
