Glass is a classic building material with a wide range of applications. Glass is generally unavoidable when creating a transparent building envelope. This makes it all the more important to know the properties and dependencies of glass in the construction industry. This is not only about the type of application, but also about the handling of glass over its entire life cycle: from the procurement of raw materials to the recycling and reuse of glass already in circulation.
Contrary to what one might expect, the processes involved in recycling glass in the construction industry are much more complex than one might expect from container glass. With the knowledge that can be gained from the material cycles of glass, various recommendations for action can be derived for a more conscious use of glass. This concerns not only the application-specific use of glass, but also the resource-saving use of glass in order to be able to build for more people with less material as an overarching goal.
