For this year's Luminale we will show an extended version of "Water-Lily-Nation" which already had its world premiere at GLOW Eindhoven with more than 220 origami flowers and over 750 LEDs, as part of the "Glow in the Dark" at the Palmengarten Frankfurt am Main. "Water-Lily-Nation" is a poetic light installation, a living swarm of hundreds of luminous origami flowers floating as a colony on the water. Small specimens gather like folk around a large queen flower with hoof state. They glow in unison with each other in an organically changing, quietly pulsating play of color. The observer is beguiled by a poetic image of luminous communication, like that of a living organism. However, should the blossoms feel disturbed, such as by the flash of a camera, the court protects the colony with a luminous storm. The small blossoms immediately hide in the darkness until these sensitive artificial creatures recover from the shock and gradually resume their intoxicating play of color.
