Responsible Design Innovation
Our German-Portuguese studio is specialized in design projects in the context of traditional crafts.
Since 2004 we, Albio Nascimento (PT) and Kathi Stertzig (DE), have been designing product and spatial concepts; leading regional development projects and advising our clients on strategic product direction. Our main focus is on designing useful products, as well as translating cultural influences into functional material, color and form concepts.
In addition, we distribute a collection of timeless utilitarian objects made from natural and renewable raw materials. This includes unique pieces and handmade small series, but also a selection of products that we have produced specifically for resale or on demand.
In all our projects we work in close collaboration with artisans and small workshops in Portugal. We take care of our projects, large or small, from concept development to delivery.

- Hanging Lamp Brass (sample)
This handturned lamp is produced in Portugal. Originally this model has been designed for an architectural project of Alt Architecture, Gent as a pending light. A second wider model has been designed as ceiling light. This shape is produced on demand and available in special colour finished on demand. Turned in brass, cleaned and varnished.
- Cork stool (TBC)
This multifunctional stool in cork serves as simple sidetable in bed- or bathroom, the living area or as toy for children. The shape is drawn from a typical wooden stool shilouette, traditionally used in rural houses. Made from Cork agglomerate.
- Cork Tray (sample)
Made with carefully selected natural cork of high density, these trays expose the internal patterns, structure and natural beauty of that material. Made from natural cork bark.
- Red gum board long (sample)
To chop and serve. We are very happy to have access to this locally sourced red gum wood (Eucalyptus camaldulensis). This is a limited series of our boards crafted in Alentejo from carefully dried blocks of full wood, each one with its unique texture.
-Tanho stool (image)
We don’t know for how long bulrush has been used in Portugal for making furniture but we do know that it first appeared in Nazaré and Santarém, where the last two artisans that do it still work. The stool is handmade in that area using 100% locally sourced bulrush, a light, smooth and long-lasting fibre.
Made on demand.
