SMARTER HABITAT has taken up the challenge of sustainable building with solutions from nature.
SMARTER HABITAT products are made from over 90% renewable raw materials with a high proportion of CO2 binding.
The top layers of the sandwich laminates are made from long-fibre plants such as hemp and flax; agricultural waste can also be incorporated in some cases.
As a composite material in combination with laminates made from hemp and flax, the petroleum-based core material, i.e. styrene or polyurethane, is to be replaced in future by our innovative granulate made from popcorn. Although the new material outwardly resembles polystyrene, which has fallen into disrepute, it also has excellent thermal insulation properties and, depending on the bonding system, low moisture absorption, but shines in comparison with good fire protection. In contrast to styrene and polyurethanes, the harmless outgassing behaviour is of paramount interest for fire protection in house construction, but also in shipbuilding.
Together with industry partners, SMARTER HABITAT has developed alternatives in drywall construction, from interior fittings for recording studios to cruise ships and even load-bearing exterior walls for house construction, which are marketed under the ‘ecoHAB’ label.
