LIGNOLOC® is an ecological fastening system made from the renewable raw material beech wood, which enables projects to be implemented without metal and with high efficiency, thereby contributing to sustainable change in the construction industry, among other areas. The wooden nails are made from Central European beech and consist of compressed laminated veneer lumber with a density of 1,300 kg/m³. Due to the special shape of the nail tip and the heat generated by friction when the nail is driven in, the lignin of the wooden nail fuses with that of the surrounding wood to form a pure material bond.
There are many areas of application, from timber frame construction and solid wood constructions to furniture, pallets, interior wall cladding and renovation work. The wood nails are available in various diameters and lengths. Since January 2022, they are also available with a head. The main application of LIGNOLOC ® with a head is horizontal and vertical wood panelling. This is because the nail with a head can also be used to securely hold facade panels in place outdoors.
The sustainable fastening system impresses with more than 70% lower CO2 emissions compared to conventional systems and fully supports the requirements of the circular economy in terms of dismantlability/recyclability. LIGNOLOC® offers lower thermal conductivity, is corrosion and chemical resistant, and results in less tool wear when reworking the wooden elements. The German Institute for Building Technology (DIBt) granted ‘General Building Approval / General Type Approval’ for ‘Load-bearing wood connections using LIGNOLOC® wood nails’ back in 2020. Now, the wood nail with and without a head has also received European approval for structural timber construction.
