Wide, room-length, solid planks made from Märkisch pine
Historic floorboards like in country houses or fine Berlin rooms
Erik Heinrich and his family were looking for floorboards for their farmhouse in Havelland, just as they used to be: Solid and in varying widths of up to 30 cm and more. They weren't available in DIY stores. So they made it themselves, from pine trees that grew in the area and with the help of local carpenters. Word got around. Friends and acquaintances also wanted floors made from traditional Märkisch pine. Erik Heinrich became a "Dieler" and founded Holz-Lebt. For 23 years, he has been buying selected pine trees that are at least 100 years old every year. The trees have grown slowly on poor sandy soils in the Mark Brandenburg, which means small ring spacing and good hardness. Poor soil - good wood! The trunks are cut into planks, which are carefully dried without a chamber before being made into pine planks the following year. Holz Lebt works according to the campaign principle: there is a limited quantity and then a break until the next campaign. Careful forest management, logging only in winter, wood only from Havelland and cooperation with companies from the immediate region are among the basic principles of Holz Lebt.
Sustainability - this term was coined in the forestry industry. The only disadvantage for Holz-Lebt is that satisfied customers will not need new floors for another 200 years or so. What grows slowly will last a long time.
