Durable wood for demanding projects
Kebony is an innovative and sustainable type of wood that is ideal for outdoor applications such as terraces or façades. When selecting the materials for the roof terrace of the "THF Tower", aesthetic aspects were also taken into account in addition to the technical aspects. Kebony Clear, for example, was chosen very early on for the decking due to its durability and attractive appearance.
Kebony technology is an environmentally friendly and patented process that permanently improves the properties of sustainable softwoods. The two-stage process permanently changes the cell structure of the wood, giving it premium properties and a dark brown color. The technology modifies wood by forming stable furan polymers that are enclosed in the cell walls of the wood. Among other things, this increases the dimensional stability, durability and hardness of the wood. The use of Kebony for the roof terrace had several advantages: The modified has a low weight compared to conventional hardwoods. In addition, it requires no further treatment with varnishes or oils after installation, making it an environmentally friendly and low-maintenance choice. Over time, it develops a silver-grey patina that adds depth and character.
This also makes Kebony an ideal solution for places like the terrace of the THF Tower, which are constantly exposed to the elements - but need to combine design aesthetics, durability and sustainability in equal measure.
