Gwilen valorizes marine sediments into an innovative and low carbon material. Our process, that does not require high temperature firing, save a lot of energy compared to a terra cotta or a cement: 75% less CO2 emitted than a terra cotta and 92% less than a concrete. Using dredged sediments instead of career materials also avoids consuming finite resources. This new marine material is 100% mineral, as we do not add any resin or any cement to solidify it. Our process is inspired by diagenesis, which is the natural process of forming rocks. We think that being inspired by Nature is the best way to respect it.
We developed a complete range of tiles, for wall and for floors. We have 21 tints, as well as 6 wall formats and a unique floor format. Our tiles are produced on demand on our Brest (FR) workshop, delivered ready to fix with standard products. It is suitable for kitchen and bathroom spaces, even for shower walls.
This innovative material has also the potential to be use in furniture projects, as a substitute for concrete or stone. The material can be moulded, and has the same properties (mechanical, thermal) as a terra cotta. It is thus as easy to use as a concrete, and as the same qualities as a terra cotta.
We are also working on industrial applications, aiming to propose alternatives for the construction industry.
