SCALITE® is made from fish scales collected in France from sustainably managed stocks of sardines or salmons. Our sardines are caught in the Atlantic Ocean, off the coast of Brittany. Our salmon scales come from fishes bred in the fresh waters of Scotland and Norway.
SCALE also works with French wild salmons which can only be caught in our local river. These heroes are respectfully caught every winter and help maintain a traditional and local smoked salmon industry.
SCALITE® uses a natural biopolymer contained within the scales. During our process this biopolymer is extracted and mixed with the mineral part of the scales to create the basis of our material. The outcome is a powder we compress according to our proprietary process to form sheets of various dimensions.
SCALITE® was designed as a natural material. We, at scale, want to stay true to this commitment. That‘s why SCALITE® is free from any deleterious resin, plastic or artificial glue that could potentially be harmless to us and the environment.
SCALITE® is a 100% bio sourced material. Indeed scales are a natural and sustainably sourced material. At scale we already reuse our wastes into new products. We’ll strive to collect our material whenever possible. From the beginning scale’s desire is to produce non deleterious materials. SCALITE® is holding this promise.
