The dominant urban structure of the existing Federal Environment Agency is cautiously complemented by a free-standing, 3-story building on the southeastern terrain. Height and cubature of the new extension develop from the existing context and thus form an integrative component of the entire property.
The design represents a formal "connectedness" on the one hand, and is an independent solitaire on the other. The self-confident formal accent is particularly evident in the façade construction.
Alternating surfaces, which are alternately transparent, translucent or opaque, characterize the façade image. Added to this is a changing inclination of the opaque surfaces oriented to the points of the compass. This creates a sculptural façade structure that changes constantly depending on the perspective. The inclination of the modules further optimizes the energy input.
