The individually designed facade of the museum building shows portraits of emigrants and immigrants and makes passers-by curious about the exhibition. The unique look of the façade is achieved with the help of the UNIQUE series of individual matrices. The structural matrices are made of polyurethane elastomers and are offered in 3 different reuse levels, divided into 100, 50 and 10 inserts. The facade was designed by the Hamburg-based studio Andreas Heller Architects & Design using cassetted concrete elements.
Embedded in the concrete elements are portraits of immigrants and emigrants, which stand out clearly depending on the incidence of light and invite passers-by to linger. The realization of this individual facade was achieved with RECKLI structural matrices of the UNIQUE and VISUALS series. For the random arrangement of the protruding and receding squares on the facade, individual matrices were produced according to the ideas of the architect's office and the client. The portraits were realized with the help of photo-engraving matrices from the VISUALS series.
The special challenge: At the request of the customer, the individual photo engravings were fitted into the special shapes and should even be interchangeable in order to bring the different portraits to the facade. The elements are installed on a curtain wall. The concrete was colored light with white cement and corresponds to exposed concrete class 4.
