New construction of a sustainable high-rise residential building in Hamburg's HafenCity.
Germany's first high-rise residential building based on the Cradle-2-Cradle principle offers recreational areas for residents and visitors with green spaces on and around the building and increases air quality and biodiversity throughout the neighborhood.
MORINGA, HAMBURG | GERMANY In the Elbbrückenquartier of HafenCity Hamburg, on the northern shore of Baakenhafen harbor, a residential complex is being built consisting of three components grouped around a green inner courtyard. Following the Cradle-2-Cradle principle, recyclable and healthy materials are joined to each other in a way that can be separated by type, deconstructed and recycled. Overall, more green space is created horizontally and vertically than is built over. The green façade has a cooling and air-cleaning function, generates oxygen, contributes to biodiversity in the city, shapes the living space of the residents, and contributes to the design of the building. Horizontal green spaces also serve as retention areas and for the generation of regenerative energy, but above all for private and communal use, for recreation, urban farming, work and exchange. As a pure rental building with variable floor plans and one third subsidized apartments, the new building addresses different social classes. It integrates co-living and co-working with communal lounges and kitchens as well as multifunctional rooms that can be occupied via app, a daycare center, gastronomy, retail and differentiated open spaces on terraces, balconies and in the courtyard.
