Zero-emissions building HafenCity - the façade as a message
Pioneer and role model for sustainable building
With its ambitious sustainability concept, the building plays a pioneering role throughout Europe and is also intended to set an example for future property developments, not only in HafenCity.
Hafencity Hamburg GmbH is planning to realise a new office building (approx. 7,200 m² gross floor area) at the Dalmannkai site as a zero-emission office building, thus closing the last urban development gap in western HafenCity. The goal of emission neutrality in the overall balance of construction and operation can only be achieved through integral planning right from the start. The competition for the realisation of the project was therefore already interdisciplinary. The winning design combines the constructive and creative use of wood, a renewable building material, with an innovative low-tech supply concept. On the one hand, this achieves a high level of self-generated energy through photovoltaic modules and, on the other hand, minimises the energy demand through a consistent reduction and avoidance of technical systems as well as the use of geothermal energy for heating and cooling. The large-scale façade and roof greening makes an important contribution to the microclimate and offers a high quality for the urban space.
The innovative overall concept serves as a supra-regional lighthouse project that demonstrates the feasibility of a climate-neutral office building with contemporary comfort and is certified with the HCH Platinum Plus eco-label.
