Colorful accentuation and material visibility
The new building was constructed as a reinforced concrete skeleton structure with solid parapet elements and flat ceilings on reinforced concrete columns. In the area of the cantilevers, the soffits and wall surfaces were clad with a dark curtain-type aluminum facade. Thus, these areas are differentiated from the monolithic brick façade in terms of design and appear like sections of the volume.
The auditorium, gymnasium, courtyards and atriums were given mullion and transom facades as thermally separated constructions with triple insulating glazing and solar control glazing. Windows were manufactured in wood-aluminum construction according to EnEV requirements. The load-bearing walls and the reinforced concrete ceilings were designed to be solid in order to be able to use them as storage masses for component activation.
The interior is dominated by a strong color scheme and the materials used, exposed concrete in the central entrance area, trowelled in the other areas with white paint, ceiling sails made of cement-bonded wood wool, white partition walls, floors made of mastic asphalt and linoleum as well as the specially developed checkroom and locker fixtures.
