GERMAN OPERA
The lighting concept for the renovation of the lighting system in the foyers of the opera house on Bismarckstrasse, completed in 2010, is based on the resumption of the architectural ductus of 1961, whose elegance is fed by extreme restraint in the use of visible means. The aim of the concept is the largely invisible integration of the lighting fixtures into the architecture. The light serves solely to support the existing architecture, as well as to stage the opera-goers moving through the space.
BEYAZIT LIBRARY
During the sensitive renovation by Tabanlioglu Architects, the impressive interiors with their 17 domes were repaired and the courtyard was re-roofed with a light construction. Air-conditioned fixtures with the valuable books are extensively glazed and exposed. The lighting concept emphasizes the large domes with indirect lighting. For this purpose, ring chandeliers with a dynamic suspension were constructed, which are suspended from the center of the dome. The new floor and the new fixtures are set off by means of a light cove. The courtyard received pendant and direct-indirect luminaires mounted on the historic steel braces to brace the vaults. Tables, display cases, and shelving received minimal surface-mounted luminaires powered by the new floor. An approach that ensures the spirit of the venerable building, survives the modern fixtures and is ready for the future.
POTSDAMER STRASSE 91
The listed building ensemble Potsdamer Strasse 91, with its densely packed residential and commercial buildings dating from 1860 to 1883, is a vivid example of the Gründerzeit boom in Berlin Schöneberg. During the renovation by AHM Architekten, which was carried out in accordance with the preservation order, the stairwells were fitted with pendant and wall lights that match the character of the respective buildings. The passageway, which was left in its original condition, received large ring lights that are clearly visible from the street and invite the visitor into the courtyard.
