The installation "Green Void" was specially designed for the 5-story atrium of the Customs House in Sydney. The nearly 20 meter high sculpture stands in intense contrast to the recently restored interior of Customs House, a building with a long tradition for the city of Sydney.
"Green Void" is a digitally generated sculpture inspired by nature, created from ultra-light fabric and produced using the most advanced technological means.
The installation spans between the floors of the building, dividing the atrium into different zones and visually mediating between the floors. The weight of the total 3000m². Minimal Surface fabric surface could be limited to 40Kg. In addition to the Green Void, LAVA developed the so-called Media Wall, in which the architects' current projects are shown on a total of 11 screens. The entire installation is underpinned by the soundscape "digital rainforest", composed by sound artist David Chesworth especially for the Green Void.
The graphic design is by TOKO, who are also responsible for the exhibition catalog in addition to digital projections. The exhibition is part of an interdisciplinary program with the aim of integrating the public space of the Customs
House with contemporary architecture, photography and multimedia exhibitions.
Masdar Plaza' stands as an exemplary global symbol for sustainable construction and related technologies. The `Oasis of the Future` is conceived as an open spatial experience - with all imaginable comforts.
The future well-being of global cities depends on humanity's ability to develop and integrate sustainable technology. Masdar City is the city of the future; it is at the forefront of integrating sustainable technology into modern architecture and its planning processes. Rome, Athens, Florence; most great historical cities had or have a central square, forum, marketplace at their center - a place where the life, values, ideals and visions of the population developed. Solar panels generate the energy for all uses, gardens reduce CO2, and the square is adaptively conditioned by a sophisticated system. An interactive media technology activates a field of stelae made of LEDs controlled by pedestrian or mobile traffic.
