Indigo - a reminiscence of forgotten culture.
Indigo is an acoustic space structure that maps the cultural treasures of Taiwan. Studio Flær's design is a tribute to cultural heritage that has been traced in everyday objects. Locally typical patterns, traditions and customs are translated into sound-absorbing panels made of 100 percent organic banana and mulberry fibers. Sustainability becomes a cultural identity here. The indigo plant gives the panels their coloring and brings the blue sky into the interior. Bamboo provides the sleek framing that makes the structure a featherweight.
In search of healthy materials and better sound, Design Studio Flaer collaborated with materials researchers and artisans from the National Taiwan Craft Research and Development Institute to develop sound-absorbing panels.
The project name Indigo is derived from the plant that gives the panels their characteristic coloring. The designers use natural and healthy materials not only for the color. Banana, nettle, mulberry and bamboo are used, completely redefining the concept of sustainable material production. Not only organic materials are used, but recycled.
The processing of the fibers is done in the traditional way proven craftsmanship. Parts of the plant are cut into small pieces and ground until fibers are produced, which can then be used to press stable sheets. For production on a larger scale, it is important that all materials are compostable. By not using chemicals, the product can be turned back into fertilizer for plants.
