The Impact Hub Berlin is growing. The new location of the largest Impact Hub in Europe to date is being built on the site of the former Kindl brewery in Berlin's Neukölln district. The planning and realization revolves around the theme of circular building: from reused materials to future changes of use and reversible structures.
A 3,500 sqm collaborative community and co-working space opens for a new generation of impact entrepreneurs focused on circular economy, inclusion, sustainable food and green technology. With over 100 co-working desks, 25 team offices, maker spaces, a café and a rooftop greenhouse, it will become the largest impact hub in Europe to date.
The site of the former Kindl brewery is already home to a number of sustainable and socially oriented organizations. Among them is the sustainability-led collective CRCLR, whose goal is to drive Berlin's evolution toward a circular economy. Instead of wasting resources, they aim to consciously reuse them. With the same attitude, the CRCLR team has been instrumental in planning the conversion of the former Kindl warehouse in recent years. In the future, this structure will house the Impact Hub Berlin.
The ethos of resource conservation continues to guide the realization of the project. The conversion of the existing building will be carried out under the aspects of sustainable and circular construction. All materials used will be reused. In the event of a future change of use, the interior fittings can be largely dismantled.
The project, which is currently in the planning stage, is being realized in collaboration between LXSY Architects and TRNSFRM eG. In the collaborative process, LXSY Architects is handling the interior design. Addressing circular construction methods, aspects such as reuse of building components, flexibility, recycled materials, future changes of use, and reversible structures are considered. Simple standards, modular components and sustainable construction methods are used. Once operational, the building will be a showcase for sustainability and inclusive design - from the use of renewable energy to the in-house zero-waste café.
