rundzwei BDA is the architectural practice of the two founders Andreas Reeg and Marc Dufour-Feronce. For rundzwei, research and design stand as two central parameters for a well-founded sustainable and modern understanding of architecture, in which space, materiality, resources, local history and natural surroundings are combined with sophisticated design. rundzwei works in the fields of contemporary architecture, urban planning, interior and product design. The office cooperates with private clients, companies as well as public clients and offers the complete spectrum of architectural design services.
The basic understanding here is that sustainable architecture starts with the concept and should not rely on retrofitted building services solutions. Therefore, at the beginning of each project, rundzwei develops architectural solutions that reduce the building's energy consumption, rather than relying on retrofitted technical solutions.
Corkscrew House
The single-family house with a difference. By staggering partial floor areas, exciting spatial relationships are created. All partial levels are accessed via a central staircase with a glass roof, and light falls deep into the building volume. Visual relationships are created between rooms on different "floors", which enlivens communal living.
A semi-sunken living and dining area is lined with stamped concrete walls. Large expanses of glass let in plenty of light. The lower bedroom, sunken into the ground, is directly adjoined by the elongated pool, together with an open bathroom and walk-in closet, a special kind of oasis of well-being. Swimming in the open air without being seen by the neighbor.
The upper levels are partially interconnected to form small studio apartments. The living area in the basement/ground floor and the fireplace and study rooms on the upper levels are open to the staircase and thus spatially connected to each other despite the different levels.
The entire building was erected in timber construction and clad with a cork facade. This is thermal insulation and visible surface at the same time, whereby excellent insulation values are achieved. With a ground storage heating system, supported by solar panels integrated into the roof, an almost self-sufficient heat energy supply is achieved.
