We have known the X-fix, this ingenious wood-to-wood connector, for 5 years now. If one X-fix replaces 24 screws and a building like the Krokodil in Winterthur, for example, is built with around 10,000 X-fixes, how much CO2 have Sepp Schilcher's X-fixes saved in the last 5 years?
We were thrilled right from the start! In the meantime, the X-fix family has grown. The latest addition is actually the smallest: X-fix mini - with a height of just 15 mm. It combines plywood and LVL. What sounds rather insignificant is actually another window into the future. Because scaling up timber construction in a sustainable timber industry can only mean using wood as a resource more sparingly. A shift from solid construction to lightweight and modular construction, paired with fast-growing insulating materials, is a viable path. The X-fix mini once again has great potential to establish itself as a deconstructable timber connector in lightweight timber construction.
